South London Makerspace
In this new section of the show, Matt tells us all about his new venture. Actually, he tells us twice, at the begging of the show and in this section mainly because he cannot read and didn’t even know this bit was here.

EP72 -Dave’s dead.

Most of the show is taken up with the awesome feedback. Featuring such celebrities as That bloke from the Archers, The posh Irishman, Our biggest fan who runs some breakfast club or something? And yet another famous person who Pete makes out he knows personally from EasyTag.

Matt’s Cat
Karou has clearly been dead boring this episode as Matt has nothing for us, so Pete talks about Archie instead.

EP71 – Mr Twonk III.

Wikipedia is going downhill fast, not that Pete cares, as Matt tells us that the only content people submit to on there is Pokemon and Female porn star stories which makes Pete blurt out something maybe he should have kept to himself? Did he jump or was he pushed? Matt tells us how news is seeping out that the reason Steve Baller was in effect ‘booted upstairs’ was because he threw a hissy fit in a board meeting. The last episode we laughed at Apple and the fact their SSL authentication wasn’t worth the paper it was printed on. Matt tells us how the GNU SSL was also as secure as wet toilet paper!

“Who the hell is Wil Wheaton?” Pete asks as we hear about the fact Wil is not happy with the direction Ubuntu is going. The team realises it’s Mark’s train set but why are people staying on the train when it’s going to a destination alien to most Open Source advocates?

Matt’s Cat
Karou enjoys the sun with a special treat from Matt who bravely opens a window.

EP70 – Jono’s maze of books.

WhatsApp? WhatsApp? Facebook has bought WhatsApp for a whopping $19 Billion but shouldn’t someone tell them they already own an IM service? DropBox updates its terms and conditions but Matt is still bemused why Pete put it in calling it a “None story” This story sent to us by rubbish listener John Lewis should probably be titled “So much for security.” as we hear that Apple’s SSL certificate authentication is not worth the paper its printed on for years! Oh and by the way here’s the link for the test page to try out. Let’s hope it fails for you too? Systemd, will this subject ever die? The team discuss the announcement that Ubuntu will ditch all the work it has been doing over the last four years and adopt systemd which makes Pete call Mark Shuttleworth a coward for not taking the chance to go his own way.

EP69 – FOSDEM 2014

We start off with a sad story that someone on the Fedora Devel list has threatened to ‘duff up’ another member and that the Fedora Board has had to step in with a stern warning. Yay for Satya Nadella who has become the next CEO of Microsoft, apparently one of his main assets is he comes from India?

OK settle down with a brew as Matt now takes over the show to tell us all about his trip to FOSDEM 2014

EP68 – Sniffing BOLD washing powder.

Matt is all excited about FOSDEM, so we spend a bit of time talking about all the people he’s hoping to meet and what talks he hopes to attend, but given Matt’s track record we suspect he’ll spend most of his time chatting in corridors.

Matt’s Cat

EP67 – Let me lick your custard.

Did you have a good Christmas? We did. The boy’s waffle on a bit about what they got and did, and Pete finds out that in fact Matt was the secret Santa and vows to get him back. For our first awesome story, Matt tells Pete all about FireFox entering into a partnership with Panasonic to bring its OS to TV’s. Wait, an Open Source company putting their OS on a TV? Is there some vague memory of someone else saying they’d do that? Any hint of Pete being sarcastic through this piece is purely a figment of your imagination.

“That’s a sexy blue router you’ve got there?” Matt tells Pete all about the Linksys WRT1900AC which is the resurrected WRT54G with upgraded hardware and OpenWRT firmware so that all you naughty geeks can hack away till your heart’s content. Matt lets Pete enthuse about the latest news that Red Hat has taken CentOS under its wing as Pete prefers to see it as rather than a purchase. Is the business community seeing the CEO vacancy at Microsoft as a poisoned chalice? Matt and Pete poke fun at Steve Ballmer, and the fact he’s lost a lot of weight yet is still wearing the clothes he had last year.

The MPAA joins W3C! This is potentially a black day? Here’s an organisation that has spent it’s time enforcing DRM and accusing millions of piracy joining forces with was up until now one of its arch enemies. Does Pete have a point when he says “The best way to destroy something is from within”?

So we, or if you prefer, Pete failed miserably with his Indiegogo campaign to get him to FOSDEM. We would like to thank each and every one of you for your support and interest. For those of you who took the “I was insulted by Pete” perk he says he may try to still insult you as a sort of thank-you but no promises.

Matt’s Cat
We hear how Karou is totally unphased travelling in the car and how inviting Matt’s lap is.

EP65 – I punched my XPS.

We seem to be breaking the supposed cardinal rule of podcasting and talking a hell of a lot about other shows as Matt tells us all about Joe Ressington’s new show Linux Luddites. Everyone loves Cyanogen? Clearly, Google doesn’t as they demanded the installer for Cyanogen is removed from the play store or they’ll remove it for them! Shades of Microsoft’s “There should only be one OS on computers.” Springs to mind.

Creative Commons releases 4.0 of its license. Pete enthuses to Matt at some of the changes while Matt seems to have an air of “Meh” about him.

Matt’s Cat
Yep, it’s a whole new section as we jump on the bandwagon of the growing number of geek cat lovers and their #caterday on the Interwebs.

Canonical should hire a Community Manager.” Slightly controversial but we do like to stir things up on this show. The guys discuss an article entitled The Burning Bridges of Ubuntu which nicely rounds up the last twelve months of turmoil within and created by Canonical nee Ubuntu. Sadly Pete makes Matt very depressed with his “Here, use my car” analogy.
